The Stone Man Mysteries (1)

I always enjoy Jane Yolen's books and this one is no exception. A very dark story involving demons, the paranormal, and gargoyles. There is a real Scottish-Catholic feel about the story too with one of the main characters being a Priest. Being Catholic, I really enjoyed the Catholic and Biblical parts of the story. But make no mistake, this is a paranormal evil and dark murder mystery. The black and white art is extremely atmospheric, appropriately for a tale taking place in 1930s Edinburgh.I only didn't like the faces as they were always never fully formed and don't seem to be the artist's strong point. While the detail in the background is fine. The mystery is fully solved in this volume but the set-up has been made for the plot to continue in the next book.
