Lady Mechanika Volume 1 & 2 by Joe Benítez
Lady Mechanika Volume 1: Mystery of the Mechanical Corpse by Joe Benítez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Oh, this was totally awesome! Loved it. The steampunk art is absolutely gorgeous and the book is a pleasure to behold. The plot captured my interest right from the beginning. There is a lot of action and character development which made me both care for and be curious about them. While plenty of side-stories are going on, the basic plot has Lady Mechanika, who has no memory of herself before she had machine-part arms, searching for her identity and "maker". I'm glad I have volume 2 here to read right away!
Lady Mechanika Volume 2: Tablet of Destinies by Joe Benítez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wonderful! The plot was more exciting than the first volume and, again, the art is gorgeous. I think I preferred the first volume though as this one mainly takes place in Africa which negates both the English and Victorian environs of steampunk. This volume is completely self-contained and doesn't reference the first one at all so they can be read in any order. I really like Lady Mechanika as she is kick-ass but also very feminine. All the characters are interesting and development is superb. Looking forward to the third volume.

So glad you liked these! I read Lady Mechanika vol 1 a couple years ago and loved it. I just finally got the 2nd vol to review from Edelweiss a couple months ago and it was great!!! So excited to see what vol 3 brings. Illustration is amazing in these and so is Lady Mechanika!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! And I found V3 on Edelweiss today! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up! I'll have to go on Edelweiss right now and check it out :-)
DeleteThese look beautiful! They remind me of Girl Genius, which I was really enjoying for a while and then I sort of forgot about. I should look it up again.
ReplyDeleteI've read a couple of Girl Genius and yes, these have a similar look and feel.
DeleteBy the way, love the fancy new look of your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's supposed to be more mobile friendly, too.
