Lady Mechanika Volume 1 & 2 by Joe Benítez

Lady Mechanika Volume 1: Mystery of the Mechanical Corpse by Joe Benítez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh, this was totally awesome! Loved it. The steampunk art is absolutely gorgeous and the book is a pleasure to behold. The plot captured my interest right from the beginning. There is a lot of action and character development which made me both care for and be curious about them. While plenty of side-stories are going on, the basic plot has Lady Mechanika, who has no memory of herself before she had machine-part arms, searching for her identity and "maker". I'm glad I have volume 2 here to read right away!

Lady Mechanika Volume 2: Tablet of Destinies by Joe Benítez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wonderful! The plot was more exciting than the first volume and, again, the art is gorgeous. I think I preferred the first volume though as this one mainly takes place in Africa which negates both the English and Victorian environs of steampunk. This volume is completely self-contained and doesn't reference the first one at all so they can be read in any order. I really like Lady Mechanika as she is kick-ass but also very feminine. All the characters are interesting and development is superb. Looking forward to the third volume.

  3. These look beautiful! They remind me of Girl Genius, which I was really enjoying for a while and then I sort of forgot about. I should look it up again.
